Starcraft 2
Due to popular demand, it's now on all the gaming computers.

More than a decade in the making, the world's favourite real-time strategy game is finally returning. The original is still played by millions but this sequel makes the whole experience accessible and relevant to a whole new generation of players. A new non-linear storyline featuring the human Terrans (expansion packs will cover the other two races, Protoss and Zerg) teaches the ropes and adds to the series' mythos with stunning new cut scenes.

It is online that the game really comes alive though, with ranked matches that instantly connect you to a player of the same skill level. Starcraft 2  inclues the most feature packed multiplayer ever with a unique ladder system for ranked games, plus detailed matchmaking options, replay features and more. Whichever way you play though, the game combines all the action and immediacy of an action game with the complex strategy that has made the previous game such a legend.

MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries
Last week we had a return to retro gaming, with this classic from 2002. Available to play on all the gaming PCs.

Play for fortune, not honour, as you become leader of a fledgling mercenary company in the latest standalone instalment of the critically acclaimed MechWarrior action-simulator franchise. Players control 100-ton "Mechs" while leading up to eight hired guns into the heat of battle in the quest for the all-mighty C-Bill.

Alien Swarm
This one went on the computers a couple of weeks back. Alien Swarm is a remake of the old Unreal Tournament 2004 mod, brought up to date in the Source engine.

The game thrusts players into an epic bug hunt featuring a unique blend of co-op play and squad-level tactics. With your friends, form a squad of four distinct IAF Marine classes. Plan your attack using an unlockable arsenal of weapons with countless loadout configurations against a wide variety of aliens. Blaze your way through an overrun, off-world colony, eradicating the alien infestation in environments ranging from the icy planet's surface, to a subterranean lava-flooded mining facility.

Medal of Honor Beta June 25, 2010, 12:03:47 pm by Gareth
We now have the new Medal of Honor Beta version on all PCs.

The beta test is running until 18th July. This new Medal of Honor is a "reboot" of the series - the previous games were set in World War 2, but the new game is set in modern-day Afghanistan.

The game is due for release on 10th October this year, on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. If you preorder from Gamestation on any format (for no charge), they'll give you a free beta key. Gamestation Swansea have provided us with 5 beta keys, so we have 5 accounts registered. To play, you can either use your own key/account if you have one, or ask one of us to log you in with one of the Crossfire accounts. Just remember that this is a beta test version, and as such it does have some bugs. So far though, it's shaping up to directly take on Modern Warfare 2 at its own game. Plus, it has a matchmaking option, but it also has a server browser :)

Big thanks to Gamestation Swansea for the beta keys. If you want to try out the game yourself, just pop in and ask.

This Month's New Games March 23, 2010, 09:13:00 pm by Gareth
Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight
C&C4 is the last in the series. It's a fairly major change from its predecessors - there's no base building, so it's closer to Dawn of War 2. It's on all our computers, so you can try it out. Just ask any one of us to log you in, because it's one of those games that forces you to always be logged in to the account (which is tied to the CD key, so you can't make your own account unless you buy your own copy of the game).

With a multitude of innovative new features to the fast and fluid C&C gameplay, Command & Conquer 4 offers players an entirely new way to play C&C. An all-in-one mobile base, persistent player progression across all game modes that is constantly updated in a real-time online profile, a 3-class system for each of the two factions, co-operative play, and a 5v5 objective-based multiplayer mode that promotes teamwork and social interaction, make Command & Conquer 4 unlike any other C&C experience.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

If you're in Crossfire,

Bad Company 2
New vehicles like the ATV and a transport helicopter allow for all-new multiplayer tactics on the Battlefield. With the Frostbite-enabled Destruction 2.0 system, you can take down entire buildings and create your own fire points by blasting holes through cover. You can also compete in four-player teams in two squad-only game modes, fighting together to unlock exclusive awards and achievements. Battles are set across expansive maps, each with a different tactical focus.

Yes, you can destroy the terrain itself. Somebody camping at a sniper point? Blow the sniper point away with him still inside! Somebody hiding behind a wall? A tank shell will blow the wall away very nicely! It makes for a whole new way of playing, and there might not be much left of a map's buildings by the end of the game.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
A game about a fictitious conflict on one of the Sakhalin islands, a conflict that is in danger of erupting onto a global scale. Take the role of a US soldier fighting against outnumbering Chinese forces vying for control of the island.

The newer Operation Flashpoint game. We were asked to install it, so now we have.

Most accessible, engaging and visceral sandbox shooter. Includes over 100 authentically modeled vehicles and weapons. Control multi-component vehicles including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, APCs, attack and utility helicopters.

Freedom of play. Balance brute force with intelligent use of tactics with unscripted missions containing real objectives such as covering a friendly unit's retreat or conducting short-range recon patrols.

Squad-based combat. As an epic single and multi-player campaign weaves the narrative, fight as infantry soldiers in battle, drive tanks in armored assaults, and infiltrate the enemy in covert special operations utilizing a wide variety of realistic military weapons from knives and rifles to machine guns and grenade launchers.

FPS Creator
FPS Creator sets a new benchmark in the game creation market by providing an easy-to-use yet highly flexible editing environment. As its name implies, this is a tool for creating action-packed FPS games with no programming or 3D modelling knowledge required.

Using an intuitive and visual Windows interface you literally paint your game world into the scene. A vast range of 3D elements are included allowing you to paint hallways, corridors, gantries, walls, doors, access tunnels, ceilings, lifts, transporters, stairs and more. Segments intelligently attach themselves to each other - paint two corridor pieces side-by-side and they'll snap together seamlessly. Switch to 3D mode and you drop in on your scene for pixel perfect placement of 3D entities. Place a light-switch on the wall and it'll intelligently control the dynamic lighting in the room.

Battle For Middle-Earth II
We installed this game a few weeks ago, after some gamers asked for it.

With all new content from J.R.R. Tolkien's original fiction, delve deeper than ever before and engage in new battles that go beyond the award-winning movie trilogy. Wage war in the North and assume command of the most storied civilizations in all of Middle-earth history the Elven and Dwarven armies or fight on the side of Evil with heroes and creatures that have never been seen in The Lord of the Rings films. Defend or overtake never before seen lands such as Dol Guldur, The Misty Mountains, and Mirkwood as you unleash powerful new weapons and abilities - summon dragons, cause volcanoes to erupt, or bring down a cataclysmic lightning strike.

But beware, with greater power comes greater adversity. Your enemies, commanded by a powerful new AI system, possess a greater tactical edge and more powerful spells. Will your armies have the fortitude to persevere?
